WHAT IS SEO?
SEO = Search Engine Optimization, which is the process of optimizing the content in your website so that Google, Bing, Yahoo! and the rest will rank your website higher than it would have ranked without the SEO work.
WHAT ARE KEYWORDS?
Keywords are the words people type into a search engine to find you. For instance, if you have the words “tasty donuts” on your website, and I go to Google and search for “tasty donuts,” I’ll eventually see your website in the results. On the other hand, if I did a search for “optometrist,” your donut shop is not likely to be one of the results. Using the correct keywords and phrases on your website is extremely important. You could sell the best furniture in the state, but if your website doesn’t utilize its content properly, no one is going to find you online.
IT’S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP
Unless your business is so unique that you have no competitors, getting to the front page of the search engine results is not an easy task. It can take weeks, months and in some cases possibly even years, to get the ranking you want. While that’s not what most people want to hear – and not what most SEO people will tell you – it’s a basic truth. Everyone wants the #1 spot on the search engines but not everyone can have it. It takes patience, dedication to supplying unique, organic and relevant content, as well as staying on top of your social media, such as Facebook and Twitter.
IN A NUTSHELL
Unless your client base is already so large that everyone knows you by name, no one is going to find you online unless your content is rich, unique, relevant and organic. SEO is an important part of making that happen.
